David Rodgers reports: One of the world’s most iconic steam locomotives – South African Railways Class 26 4-8-4 No. 3450 ‘Red Devil’ is to be restored to working order.  In the last few days the loco, which has stood out of use in a secure part of Cape Town’s Monument station for a decade, has yesterday […]

Douglas Brooks reports: Sandaoling – 28/2/ – 6/3/2018 March 2018’s visit turned out to be a bit of an expensive waste of time. The Coal Yard and the Yellow Loader were not in use. It was far too warm for any exhaust except when departing from the Blue Loader and, at night, from the Washery. […]

Sunshine from wall to wall, fantastic looking trains, more four wheel wagons than ever and a very cooperative railway made the second metre gauge steam event in Burma an outstanding success. Here is the last picture from the tour:

You know now most Young people already went to new Mine for their working .Miner all getting older in Sandaoling and about 60% people will be retired in 2018.so the […]

Saving the Borsha Valley Railway

For many years, the Borsha Vallay Rauilway saw its first steam train on August 4th, 2017. The tour was a great success and well covered by local broadcast stations and newspapers. Unfortunately there were some protests in Gaiworon, where the loco was borrowed from, and some sabotage on the Beregowo line on August 5th. The […]

The once unbelievable seems to becoming true: the Borsha Valley Railway, a candidate for closure up until recently, may make it on to the list of preserved lines. The 0-8-0 locomotive, Gr 280 has arrived from Gaivoron and will haul trains during the August. I published a press release on my blog in the German […]

We reached Zambia! 15A 414 crosses the Victoria Falls bridge towards Zambia.

On the way to Victoria Falls we were able to do some nice shots. Here 16A 611 blasts with loaded coal and covered wagons around the curves before Zanguja.

A day and a half in Mladejov produced several nice shots of this little railway with the last working Engerth locomotive. Most of the first day was overcastted or rainy, but we found the little gabs in the clouds which enabled us to take some sunny shots. The temperatures have been low for the last […]

They did it! Sandaoling will run at least until 2018. They reduced the number of locos in the pit to three, but they’ll continue to run for sure. Time for another winter tour in December 2017!

After the Chinese New Years’ break Sandaoling is running as usual. There are new rumors that the final end of the steam and the railway is not decided yet. They’ll announced an all stakeholder meeting in March – and this should bring a decision. So there is still hope as the mine is supposed to […]

After Chinese New Year an SY steam locomotive returned back to service. But today they decided to extinguish the fire at least until July 2017. The coal production is lower than usual due to the reduced demand. However, February 11th we’ll fly to China. Sandaoling an Wujiu are on the agenda. Wujiu is still not […]

***** On our way back from Zingyaik, the station next to a quarry, to Bago we experienced some very nice moments in the evening. Here are some pictures from that […]

On the way to the south our stone train reached its destination – the quarries of Zingyaik. On the way we could take some more pictures.

An authentic stone train […]
