End of Steam in Vietnam
December 26th, 2013, the last active steam loco driver of Vietnam will be retired, and this is the last day for the 0-6-0 GJ class in service.
Then they’ll use all diesel locomotives they have, eight TY7 Russian diesels, six of them metre gauge, two standard gauge. The remaining five steam locomotives will be parked in the depot and await their fate. Thai Nguyen Steel Company (TISCO) will decide when they’ll go to the blast furnace.
Two locos will remain serviceable until January 2015. Shall I run another tour for just two locos in a steelworks?
